OVERVIEW

LOTRO will be releasing its new Legendary System (LI) in a future update (U30.3). The reason for the revamp to the system was to create a less “grindy” experience, particularly for those just getting their new Legendary Weapons and Items as the shear amount of consumables required to level them to cap became more and more daunting with each new level cap. The Dev team have stated that they will fairly compensate those with the existing LIs; perhaps through a barter mechanism. In addition, they will not be forcing people to make the change, you will be able to use your existing LIs as is. Although it will likely be advantageous to make the switch, particularly as the game progresses.

The new LI System will be available to players level 50+ and feature more customization than the current iteration.

SSG and the Devs have stated that they plan to implement a fair way to compensate players that have existing legendary weapons and items. As of this writing you will receive the following if your convert an existing LI to the new LI materials (using the Convert button on your LI panel):

Unimbued 3rd Age Weapon/Item with no IXP, SoE, Starlits, or Crystals of Rememberance: 0
Unimbued 3rd Age Weapon/Item with maxed IXP (level 60), no Starlits, and no Crystals of Remembrance: 3,330 Ancient Scripts, 150 Purple Enhancement Runes, 34 Teal Enhancement Runes, and 3 Fragmented Morgul Traceries
Unimbued 3rd Age Weapon/Item with maxed IXP (level 70) and maxed Starlits: 3,600 Ancient Scripts, 150 Purple Enhancement Runes, 50 Teal Enhancement Runes, and 5 Fragmented Morgul Traceries
Imbued 1st Age Weapon/Item with no IXP and no Starlits: 500 Ancient Scripts, 11 Purple Enhancement Runes
Imbued 1st Age Weapon/Item with maxed IXP and maxed Starlits: 5,400 Ancient Scripts, 270 Purple Enhancement Runes, 86 Teal Enhancement Runes, and 9 Fragmented Morgul Traceries

The main hub for NPCs that you will interact with for the new LI Traceries and LI Bartering are located in Rivendell’s the Last Homely House. Once inside the Last Homely House head to the second floor and enter the Gobeth Teithian – Archive of Traceries.

New Legendary Weapons and New Legendary Items can be obtained by bartering consumables called Ancient Scripts (requires 200), crafting them (future), or via quest completions. The new LIs feature sockets for which you can insert Traceries. Traceries can be bartered for using consumables called Ancient Scripts and Cracked/Shattered Traceries. Each tracery can then be leveled via consumables called Enhancement Runes.

FAQS

A. Go to the Last Homely House in Rivendell. Once inside the Last Homely House head to the second floor and enter the Gobeth Teithian – Archive of Traceries and speak with the NPC inside. Click Barter Items and select your Weapon/Class Item. It will cost 200 Ancient Scripts.
A. If you are level 45+ you can complete the Epic Quest Line Vol. II, Book 1, Chapter 1: Strangers in Hollin in Echad Dunann, Eregion.

Q. Why can I not get a new version of my Bridle?
A. These have not been released yet. You will need to keep using your old bridle.

Q. Why is my new LI only item level 51?
A. You have to reforge it to bring it to your item level. Speak with the NPC in the Last Homely House ( Gobeth Teithian – Archive of Traceries ) and choose Open Legendary Item Forge. Select your LI, give it a name (if you like) and click Reforge. The LI will now be at your item level (at character level 130 the max item level is 449).

Q. Why can I not equip my new LI?
A. You have to unequip both your old LIs first. You physically have to drag them from your slot on your character panel (press C by default) in to your inventory. You then have to drag your new LIs from your inventory to their slots on the character panel (press C by default).

Q. What do I do with my old LIs?
A. Extract new LI consumables from them (click here). You can still use your old LIs, you just can’t level, improve, etc. them any longer. Once you have built your new LIs, the old ones are pretty much obsolete; you can hang on to them or delete them.

Q. What if I make a mistake and slot the wrong tracery?
A. You can drag a new tracery on top of the old and it will replace it (but you do not get the original one back), you can use Mithril coins and click the Unslot button, or you can use Tracery Reclamation Scrolls.

OLD LI CONSUMABLES

Before we dive in to what’s new, DO NOT vendor or trash your IXP Runes, Scrolls of Empowerment, Starlit Crystals, Crystals of Remembrance, Essence Reclamation Scrolls, Relic Removal Scrolls, or Imbued Legacy Replacement Scrolls.

IXP Runes: These will be used in some way after U31: Gundabad
Essence Reclamation Scrolls: If you had these in your possession prior to U30.3 they can be deconed using the Flame of Ancalamír in to the new Tracery Removal Scroll or the new Essence Reclamation Scroll.
Scrolls of Empowerment: Unclear if they will be barterable in some way.
Starlit Crystals: Unclear if they will be barterable in some way.
Crystals of Remembrance: Unclear if they will be barterable in some way.
Relic Removal Scrolls: Unclear if they will be barterable in some way.
Imbued Legacy Replacement Scrolls: Unclear if they will be barterable in some way.

CONVERTING EXISTING (OLD) LIs TO NEW LI CONSUMABLES

If you have the old Essence Reclamation Scrolls you can use your Flame of Ancalamir to decon them to Tracery Reclamation Scrolls (or Essence Reclamation Scrolls). Using a Tracery Reclamation Scroll unslots all of your Traceries (so you need pack space). Presumably we will be able to get Tracery Reclamation Scrolls from Skirm Vendors or Barterers in the future.

Start by opening your legendary panel (Shift + I by default). You will see your LIs:

Click on the Appraise Item button. It will tell you how many of the new consumables you will get from your old LI.

Now choose the Claim button if you are wanting to covert to the new currencies. NOTE: There is a cap of 10,000 Ancient Scripts. However, as of U30.3 you can go over this cap when converting your old LIs. You will not be able to earn Ancient Scripts via other sources (i.e. quest loot) until you get back under the 10,000 cap. Once you claim your converted items you will still be able to equip and use your old LI, but you cannot modify it etc. any more.

THE NEW LI SYSTEM

You can obtain your new LIs from the barterer in the Last Homely House in Rivendell. Once inside the Last Homely House head to the second floor and enter the Gobeth Teithian – Archive of Traceries and you will find everything you need here.

NOTE: When you first barter for your new LI it will be level 51. Open the Forge Master and Reforge it. It will convert to your level (as of this writing the max item level is 449).

To equip your new LI you will have to physically remove your old LI and put it in your pack and then drag the new LI to the slot in your character panel. Before you can equip a new LI both of your old LIs must be unequipped.

The new LIs are socketed gear, with the current available sockets being:

Heraldric Tracery – 1 Socket
Word of Power – 2 Sockets for Weapons and 3 Sockets for Items
Word of Mastery – 6 Sockets
Word of Craft – 3 Sockets these are stat based (physical mastery, tactical mastery, critical rating, etc.)

THE NEW LI INTERFACE

TRACERIES

You can add traceries to your LIs in two ways; double-clicking it or via the socketed equipment panel on your character screen.

If you add a tracery to your LI by double-clicking the tracery you will get the following screens:

If you add the tracery via the character panel (press the C key by default) you will get the following screens:

Drag your LI to the the little golden flame icon (just below your boots).

This will open the Essences Panel (surely to be renamed).

Now drag the tracery from your inventory to the slot you would like it to go in. Note: All tracery slots that are eligible to receive the tracery you are dragging will begin to sparkle.

Heraldic Traceries

These traceries are basic stat buffs. At some point in the future they may also be used to alter your damage type.

They come in level ranges of 50-95 and 121-140. It is unclear why there is a gap from level 96-120 (presumably an error that will be corrected).

These traceries come in four different rarities; Uncommon (Yellow) < Rare (Purple) < Incomparable (Teal) < Legendary (Gold) [yellow being the weakest and gold being the strongest].

There are Ancient Scripts and Cracked/Shattered Traceries that can be used to barter for Heraldic Traceries at an NPC in Rivendell. There may also be a possibility of obtaining these by crafting or via loot drops.

Note: You can slot the same Heraldic Tracery in your Main LI and your Class LI.

As of this writing level 121 Word of Mastery Traceries cost the following:

Yellow – 100 Ancient Scripts
Purple – 300 Ancient Scripts
Teal – 600 Ancient Scripts and 1 Shattered Morgul Tracery
Gold – 1,000 Ancient Scripts and 1 Cracked Morgul Tracery

Word of Power Traceries

These traceries are specialized traceries meant to enhance the role you gearing for (tank, DPS, heals, support, etc.).

They come in 4 colours; Red (offensive), Green (healing), Blue (defensive), and Yellow (generic/support)

There are Ancient Scripts and Cracked/Shattered Traceries that can be used to barter for Word of Power Traceries at an NPC in Rivendell. There may also be a possibility of obtaining these by crafting or via loot drops.

Note: You cannot apply two of the exact same Word of Power traceries to your LI, nor can you have one in your weapon and one in your item.

Word of Power – Offensive (Red)

Word of Power – Defensive (Blue)

Word of Power – Healing (Green)

Word of Power – Any (Yellow)

Word of Mastery Traceries

These traceries are class specific (most similar to the old legacies).

They come in four different rarities; Uncommon (Yellow) < Rare (Purple) < Incomparable (Teal) < Legendary (Gold) [yellow being the weakest and gold being the strongest].

There are Ancient Scripts and Cracked/Shattered Traceries that can be used to barter for Word of Mastery Traceries at an NPC in Rivendell. There may also be a possibility of obtaining these by crafting or via loot drops.

As of this writing level 121 Word of Mastery Traceries cost the following:

Yellow – 100 Ancient Scripts
Purple – 300 Ancient Scripts
Teal – 600 Ancient Scripts and 1 Shattered Morgul Tracery
Gold – 1,000 Ancient Scripts and 1 Cracked Morgul Tracery

Note: You cannot have two (or more) of the same Word of Mastery Tracery equipped at the same time. Example: if you are a rune-keeper you cannot have two of the same on your stone, two of the same on your bag, or 1 on your stone and the same one on your bag.

These traceries are are single stat based (physical mastery, tactical mastery, critical rating, etc.). In future releases there will be more set bonuses available via these traceries.

They come in four different rarities; Yellow < Purple < Teal < Gold (yellow being the weakest and gold being the strongest).

There are Ancient Scripts and Cracked/Shattered Traceries that can be used to barter for Word of Craft Traceries at an NPC in Rivendell. There may also be a possibility of obtaining these by crafting or via loot drops.

NOTE: To obtain the set bonuses you must equip 2 (or 4) of the exact same Word of Craft Tracery.

CONSUMABLES

Enhancement Runes

Enhancement runes have character level restrictions and come in different rarities; Uncommon (Yellow for leveling traceries to 415) < Rare (Purple for leveling traceries to 430) < Incomparable (Teal for leveling traceries to 440) < Legendary (Gold for leveling traceries to 440+). NOTE: It is most cost effective to level your traceries to level 415 with Yellow, then to 430 with purple and so on. They are similar to the old Scrolls of Empowerment in that they are applied to your tracery to enhance it (level it). You can barter for Enhancement Runes with Ancient Scripts (121+ cost 20 for yellow, 50 for purple, and 100 for teal). You can acquire these via crafting (future ?), loot drops, or quest completions.

To use the Enhancement Runes you must drag them on top of the Tracery you wish to upgrade. It will ask you how many you want to apply. Select the amount and hit OK.

Cracked (Fragmented) Tracery / Shattered Tracery

The Cracked (Fragmented) Traceries are used to barter for Legendary Traceries and the Shattered Traceries are used to bartered for Incomparable Traceries. Note: Legendary > Incomparable. You can obtain these via loot drops, crafting (future ?), and quest completions.

Ancient Scripts

Ancient Scripts are used to barter for Legendary Weapons/Items and Traceries (of all kinds). You can obtain these via loot drops, crafting (future ?), and quest completions.

Tracery Reclamation Scrolls

If you have made a mistake, or you change your mind, you can unslot traceries with Tracery Reclamation Scrolls. At the moment the only source of these is to use your Flame of Ancalamir on an Essence Reclamation Scroll. NOTE: You must have had the Essence Reclamation Scroll in your inventory prior to Update 30.3 for this to work.
